Prepare for a passport application
Passport applications require an application at the official Passport Seva portal and, where instructed, an appointment and verification. A private centre cannot issue a passport or bypass those steps.
Choose the correct application type
Passport Seva describes a fresh passport as the route for a first application in the relevant category. An existing passport may instead require re-issue, for example when its validity is ending or personal particulars need a change. The official form and document rules depend on the reason for the request, so check the Passport Seva FAQ before selecting a service.
Use the official tools before paying
Passport Seva provides a document advisor and fee calculator. Use them for your applicant type and reason for applying. Fees can change; the portal announced revisions effective 1 July 2026, so avoid relying on an old printed amount or an estimate from another website. Appointment availability also depends on the official system.
Prepare in this order
- Open the official Passport Seva website and read the current instructions for your application type.
- Use the document advisor to check which original documents and copies apply to your case.
- Complete the online application with details that match your supporting records.
- Use the official fee calculator, then follow the portal’s payment and appointment instructions.
- Keep the application reference and receipt, attend the appointment as instructed, and use the official status page for updates.
For re-issue after loss, damage, change of particulars or another special circumstance, check the dedicated official guidance rather than assuming the fresh-passport checklist applies.
G1Seva’s role is limited to the assistance actually selected by the customer. Passport Seva, the Passport Office and verification authorities make all official decisions and control their timelines.
